An-Sofie was with us in November 2025 to complete her Divemaster course.
Where are you from and how did you start diving?
Hi! I'm (An-)Sofie, I'm from Belgium and I first got into diving on a trip around the south of Europe back in 2021. I booked an open water course in Malta and was hooked immediately!
What made you decide to embark on the Divemaster course?
Ever since my open water course there has been an itch about starting a professional diving career. The main doubt being that diving light no longer be as magical if I have to take care of other people and it's not just for my own enjoyment. Doing my Divemaster course seemed like the perfect way to figure out if my doubt was legitimate.

What was your favourite part/highlight of the training?
Getting to assist with DSD's and open water courses and being a part of someones first steps under water. Getting to share our beautiful oceans with people who have never experienced them before is truly magical!
What was your biggest challenge and how did the team help you overcome this?
The currents around Penida were something I had never experienced before and I found the feeling of not being in control pretty challenging! The instructors at Purple thought me how to deal with them physically but also that there is no way to fight against them so to "just go with the flow". And even though that last part wasn't necessarily new information, it still helped to calm my brain down!

Where are you working now and what is your current role?
I am still travelling at the moment but my doubts about being a dive professional are gone thanks to the Divemaster course and I am 100% certain I am going to take the next steps in my professional journey and will be working as a Padi Divemaster/Instructor soon!
What is your best dive to this day?
Every second underwater is an absolute dream. But seeing a Mola Mola out of season on my first dive as a DMT is definitely in my top
